AFBJJ CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
New AFBJJ
Certification Program
Starting October 1st, 2024,
the AFBJJ is launching an updated Black Belt Certification program with both
physical and online rules courses (Self-Paced Course and Zoom Webinar Course).
This new structure offers more flexible scheduling options for applicants.
Why AFBJJ Certification Program
As many black
belts would be aware, under IBJJF rules, anyone who has not had a membership
cannot apply for degrees at first membership. Anyone who has had a membership
that has become inactive can apply for degrees with degrees being granted
reduced in time equal to the time of inactivity.
The AFBJJ adheres
to the IBJJF rules concerning brown belt provisional, black belt provisional,
black belt and black belt with degrees.
The AFBJJ will allow an amnesty to all
brown belt provisional, black belt provisional, black belt and black belt with degrees
in regards to those never having an AFBJJ membership and those who have had an
inactive membership for a period of time.
-
If you've never had an
AFBJJ membership or had an inactive one, you can apply for certification
through an amnesty program. This is valid until December 31st, 2025.
- After this date, only
those with active memberships can apply for provisional brown belts, black
belts, and higher degrees.
- Inactive members will
lose time towards degrees equal to the inactivity period.
- All certifications will
be listed in an online database, up to the 6th-degree black belt.
Certification Requirements:
- Pass the AFBJJ/IBJJF rules course (within the
last 2 years).
- Submit a belt history form, signed by a
registered professor.
- Hold a current First Aid certificate (within 2
years)
Note: If
you're already registered with IBJJF, these steps might not be required, but
additional info will be requested if applying for a degree higher than your
IBJJF registration.
From October 1st, 2024, all
head coaches must be certified according to the “AFBJJ Certification Program”
guidelines, ensuring they are legitimate, knowledgeable of the rules, and
trained in First Aid.
